IAMANew edition of International Additive Manufacturing Award (IAMA) competition is starting.  Applications for the IAMA – launched by Association For Manufacturing Technology and VDW, the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association – are being accepted now through December 31, 2014. Rules, submission guidelines and additional details can be found on the new IAMA website. The IAMA winner will receive a $20,000 cash prize and a media package valued at $80,000 to promote the winning development. The award will be presented at The MFG Meeting (Manufacturing for Growth) taking place March 4-7, 2015, in Orlando, Fla. The competition is sponsored also by European Association of the Machine Tool Industries (CECIMO).

The annual IAMA recognizes innovations in 3D printing technology for industrial applications. This includes developments in the design of systems or major components; advances in processes or materials; new applications; and data generation or measurement. Those in the industry, such as system producers, users, component suppliers, data modelers, and international academia, are invited to apply. A distinguished international panel of jurists from the media, industry and academia will choose the winning entry.

“The global manufacturing community is paying close attention to the many new technology breakthroughs in the additive manufacturing sector,” said AMT President Douglas K. Woods. “As more companies move to expand the capabilities of this technology and more end users find production solutions leveraging additive manufacturing, the landscape of manufacturing will evolve at a pace the industry has not seen in a generation. I hope this award inspires additive technology innovators from around the world to submit their best ideas for the future of this promising technology.”

“It is my hope that the IAMA will turn the world spotlight on the pioneers and top performers in this high-tech manufacturing sector,” said VDW executive director Dr. Wilfried Schäferd. “VDW is pleased to join AMT in a global competition that can ultimately benefit the entire industry.”
