Leading provider of innovative lightweighting solutions for the global automotive industry Nemak announced the inauguration of its new plant in the Zavolzhye Industrial Zone in Ulyanovsk, Russia.The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Armando Tamez, Nemak’s CEO, and Mr. Sergey Morozov, Ulyanovsk’s Governor. Mr. Armando Garza Sada and Mr. Alvaro Fernandez Garza, Chairman of the Board and President of ALFA, Nemak’s main shareholder, respectively, attended as guests of honor. Likewise, authorities the local government, automotive executives and local suppliers also attended the event.
“This plant marks a historic milestone in Nemak´s global expansion. We are deeply grateful for the welcome we have received from the people of Ulyanovsk, and we look forward to supporting the growth of our customers in the Russian market. We are confident that, with the local talent pool and a strong base of suppliers, we are well-positioned to build a world-class operation here in Ulyanovsk,” commented Armando Tamez.
This new facility is Nemak’s 35th plant. It is equipped with state-of-the-art casting technologies. Initially it will supply cylinder heads and engine blocks to Volkswagen´s engine plant in Kaluga. The plant has an extension of 12,000 m² and an annual capacity of 600,000 equivalent units and required an investment of more than U.S. $60 million. Its start of production is scheduled for October 2015.
