Mas-1: patented technology

AperturaFrom structural mechanics to urban furnishing and building, from trend design to heat exchange. These are some sectors addressed by the innovative patented machining technology developed by Iron’s Technology, all-italian Cesena start-up.

Italian companies can astonish and attain all-round successes in several industrial sectors and fields, both in national and international ambit; not only for their great capability of creating technological innovation and evolution but also of coupling know-how and attention to the market at best, turning needs into opportunities. One of them is certainly Iron’s Technology, established at Cesena (FC) in 2011 thanks to the farsightedness of three young entrepreneurs: Marco Senni, owner of Iron’s Meccanica, family-owned company operating on the territory since the Thirties, Rudi Bragagni and Andrea Ancarani, coming from the sector of machine tools and industrial robotics. In this context, in the course of these years, the company has followed a trend of constant development and growth, becoming a reference partner for the companies on the territory. «Today our company – specifies Marco Senni – takes care of the design and implementation of special NC machine tools and robotic plants upon customers’ precise specifications, with high added value and technological level».

Profiling and corrugating off-line
Among the implemented machines, stands out also a line able to plastic cold form metal pipes exploiting a particular technology called Mas-1. «The basic concept of tube machining – explains Senni – is patented on a world scale and is combined with management software purposely developed and patented, it too. Their synergy gives birth to a machine unique of its kind for its versatility and precision features. The process provides that the pipe is gripped between two clamping devices (spindles or pliers, editor’s note) and cold formed by means of one or two opposite heads positioned on the translation carriage. Possible machining operations are the most different, with a variety of shapes and pitches permitting to supply different applications sectors: from the heat exchange to structural mechanics, from urban furnishing and building to trendy design». Three are the available lines, that is to say HT, EL and S. The first (High Torque) is the most powerful and complete solution thanks to several accessories. We are speaking of a machine that generates a thrust force on the heads of over 200 kN and that can execute machining operations on pipes with maximum thickness of 10 mm and diameter of 500 mm. The EL (Entry Level) series stands out because purposely devised without accessories and therefore it is fully configurable and customizable according to application needs. «Thanks to the gained know-how – underlines Senni – and to this outstanding configurability, we can turn the most different demands into operational opportunities to be able to satisfy whatever requirement». Economic in commercial terms only, the EL version assures instead a high-quality process with thrust force on the heads exceeding 120 kN, to carry out machining processes on pipes with maximum thickness of 5 mm and diameter of 250 mm. «In the S series, small – adds Senni – the machine is equipped with one head only but it can execute simple machining with extreme rapidity and precision thanks to a thrust force on the head of 18 kN. A version, the latter, which can perform machining processes on pipes with maximum thickness of 2 mm and maximum diameter of 30 mm».

Reliability and performances without compromise
Relying on the experience gained in mechanical engineering, in the maintenance of CNC machines, as well as in the retrofitting and revamping of machine tools, automated and robotic plants, the technical division of Iron’s Technology has adopted in the development of Mas-1 interesting devices that make it a reliable and performing solution. «For the structure – underlines Senni – we have chosen a configuration with flat or inclined bed, paying particular attention to stiffness and stability, also thanks to the tempering process that the bed itself undergoes after welding». The machine carriage, it too developed according to the same qualitative criteria of the bed, can have various sizes depending on the model chosen. «The S series – ends Senni – equipped with a single vertical head, needs a smaller space and a lighter structure. The EL and HT versions, much more performing, exact instead more housing space and then a more generously sized support structure». To grant the correct machining execution speed, re-circulating ball or roller guides are adopted (depending on the model), while the power is transmitted to the axes by planetary reduction gears with no backlash, top quality gears and racks. Besides, for the pipe rotation and the carriage translation they have selected suppliers of brushless motors able to grant repeatability, positioning and interpolation at the highest levels. The standard equipment is completed by tool-holder heads, managed by pneumatic or hydraulic actuators with proportional control and piloting; solution that allows conferring further power and precision to mounted tools. The control of the machine and of the machining operations is finally entrusted to the CNC with simple and intuitive operator interface.
