AmetekAmetek Specialty Metal Products Division has developed a process for the production of ductile nickel-chrome strip products. The processing takes advantage of Ametek’s wrought powder metallurgy to extend the range of this binary alloy system with increasing chromium content beyond the industry maximum of 30%. This high purity process ensures a stable product with low impurity levels of Oxygen, Nitrogen and Iron and can include Silicon additions up to 1.5%.

The process is currently producing 35% Chrome sheathing used for the production of hardfacing weld wire product in the boiler industry. The process has already been applied to lower content industry standards such as 80/20 and 70/30 nickel/chrome alloys with immediate success.
The material is available in strip products up to 12” wide in coil form and can also be traverse wound in reels of up to 700 lbs for weld wire sheathing applications. Ametek SMP manufactures or consolidates a variety of metal alloys including stainless steels, nickel-based alloys, cobalt-based alloys, titanium and titanium alloys and master alloys. For over 50 years, it has developed innovative, proprietary products tailored to specific customer applications.
