The uses of extruded products are very numerous and well known. A further enlargement of their use undoubtedly poses the problem of the quality control and of the repeatability of the main technological and applicative characteristics. In manifold cases, the quality of the extruded component is the result of the management of the technological process and of the characteristics of the initial billet. Despite the criticality of this aspect, there are not, at present, regulatory instruments allowing both the billet producer and the extrusion operator to set correctly, in terms of quality of the raw material, the supply and control conditions. Some researchers have carried out a market survey just on this aspect, in order to identify what factors must be taken into account.
