Despite ongoing global challenges, the sheet metal working industry demonstrated its unwavering commitment to progress and growth at EuroBLECH 2024, the 27th International Sheet Metal Working Technology Exhibition. With 38,946 visitors from 114 countries and 1,317 exhibitors spread across 160,000 square meters of exhibition space, the event solidified its position as the world’s foremost platform for innovation and business in the sector. A prevailing sense of cautious optimism filled the halls, with many exhibitors securing significant orders.
While the global economy faces slowdowns, there was a strong consensus that key markets will recover and expand, coupled with a firm determination to drive necessary transformations. The industry continues to push for innovation, with a clear focus on seizing new opportunities. This forward-looking mindset was mirrored by a notable willingness from buyers to explore new investments.
The four-day event stood out for the high quality of its visitors, with a large proportion of them being key decision-makers. The number of unique visitors grew by 3%, with Germany showing increasing significance in specific technology sectors. Other leading visitor countries included the Netherlands, Italy, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, Austria, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, and Switzerland. There was also notable growth in visitors from Asia (Japan, Taiwan, India) and South America (especially Argentina), signalling emerging markets for the sheet metal industry.
The drive to innovate continues to spark technological breakthroughs
EuroBLECH’s impressive nine exhibition halls were brimming with new product launches and groundbreaking innovations, sending a strong signal for technological progress and growth opportunities within the industry. Across all 15 technology areas, manufacturers demonstrated their commitment to improving production efficiency through advanced innovations.
Among the key technologies showcased were: an AI-based vision system for fully automated sorting of laser-cut parts; remote diagnostics and monitoring for faster troubleshooting and maintenance; highly automated factory systems that integrate people, machines, and data into smart workflows; folding machines with fully automated tool changers; user-friendly, robust laser-cutting machines for newcomers; modular or compact bending cells for smaller production environments; a 20kW high-speed, high-precision fibre laser cutting machine for demanding applications; AI-driven robotic software for adaptive applications; and many more cutting-edge solutions.
The transformative power of innovation – recognized and celebrated
Among the many industry leaders showcasing innovations, 76 companies were nominated for the prestigious EuroBLECH 2024 Award, organized in collaboration with Blechnet and MM Maschinen Markt. The six winners, selected by public vote, were honoured for their contributions to advancing technical excellence in the following categories:
- Stamping and Forming: Amada for their fully automatic bending robot cell ‘EGB-1303ARse’.
- Cutting Technology: TRUMPF for their bevel cutting feature on 2D laser cutting machines.
- Joining Technology: Weil Technology for their laser welding system ‘LWC-RT4-BPP’.
- Surface Technology: Q-Fin for their small parts finishing machine ‘Q-Fin F250’.
- Automation and Handling: Reis Robotics for their robot controller ‘ROBOTstar VII’.
- Sustainability: Bosch Rexroth for their energy-efficient, servo-hydraulic drive solution for deep-drawing presses.
Runners-up included: Airco, BENEVA, Bystronic, CNC Europe/LASERMACH, EMC, ENGMAR, EPCM Expert, Hans Weber Maschinenfabrik, MicroStep Europa, Schuler, and Wilson Tool. Visitors were also encouraged to explore the Award Trails, where they could learn more about the 76 shortlisted companies and their innovations.
A Dynamic Mix of Knowledge, Engagement, and Fresh Talent On and Off the Show Floor
EuroBLECH 2024 also featured dedicated Presentation Areas in Halls 26 and 27, hosting live talks by prominent industry leaders on automation and digitalization trends. A special Panel Discussion focused on solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. Additionally, the new Guided Tours were a success, offering visitors an efficient way to explore productivity trends and connect with relevant suppliers.
The event also reaffirmed its commitment to fostering young talent and innovative approaches. One in five exhibitors at EuroBLECH 2024 were new to the event, contributing fresh perspectives. Among these, a group of promising start-ups was featured in the Young Innovators’ Pavilion in Hall 15, showcasing emerging businesses and innovations from Germany. On Careers Day, students and apprentices were welcomed with free admission, providing them with unique opportunities to engage with groundbreaking technologies and leading suppliers.
Industry’s Leading Event Sparks a Positive Outlook for the Future
After four days of dynamic networking and collaboration, EuroBLECH 2024 wrapped up on a high note, with participants feeling a strong sense of optimism and accomplishment.
