A 201 aluminium alloy and thixoforming process

538

An English researcher has presented a research focused on a commercial alloy that has notable importance thanks to its high mechanical properties, its machinability and good formability, which proved to be suitable for applications at the semi-solid state thanks to its wide solidification interval. We are speaking of the A201 aluminium alloy. Even if this alloy has some casting difficulties, it shows a particularly high answer to the age hardening, offering then good mechanical characteristics, especially in the almost double elongation values, thixoformed under T6 and T7 heat treatment conditions that can be comparable to the values of the machined 2014 aluminium alloy. Besides, the first fatigue tests carried out on thixoformed specimens made of A201 alloy, using non-dendritic material generated by the rheocasting process, have given very promising results.
